Driving around the Dallas area during the holiday season brought to mind the ominous "crane prediction". Three times in the past twenty-seven years an economic demise has followed the extensive deployment of Texas building cranes. Unscientific?! maybe ... but a 100% prediction rate so far ... 3 of 3 ... 1987, 2000, and 2008. When the cranes come out the bottom falls out of the economy and right now the cranes are EVERYWHERE!!

Increasingly the mention of a stock market bubble should give pause and while the stock market does not predict the wider economy a negative wealth effect could destroy consumer confidence. Next there's the volatile situation in Lebanon and Syria. Today that proxy war took a major jump as Saudi Arabia just pledged $3 billion in military aide to the Lebanonese government. And isn't this an election year?? Finally there are the Texas building cranes. Hopefully they will start to thin out before March. If not ... stock your shelves and get ready for the fall.
